Brief History of Character:
Gellert Grindwald was born in 1883 in Germany. His parents were important pureblood wizards in the magical society of Germany. He grew up with money, power (as much as a child is given), and intelligence that sometimes seemed beyond his years. Readily taking to learning and reading, he studied even beyond the tutors his parents had instructing him before he entered Durmstrang Institute in 1894. Adapting quickly to the curriculum, he began to surpass it, grow bored with the things taught and wanting to know more that would help him achieve more knowledge and power. He began to experiment with spells and potions to reach this goal. It was in school that he first learned the tales of the Deathly Hallows. He grew particularly interested in finding the three items, wanting the power they gave the owner for himself. He could only imagine the power he'd have if he succeeded in becoming the rightful owner to all three of the Death Hallows. It was in his sixth year, at the age of sixteen, he was expelled for causing more harm than good. Many though his experiments and research had gone too far and not only endangering himself, it endangered everyone in the school.
After he was expelled, he went aboard to live with his great-aunt Bathilda Bagshot in Godric's Hallow. It was the last known owner of the Cloak of Invisibility was buried. During his stay with his great aunt, he met Albus Dumbledore, a wizard fresh out of Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. The two young adults bonded over the idea of a world where wizards ruled over muggles. The two had a romantic relationship for some time, and Gellert used it to his advantage, getting Albus to agree to aid him in his search for the Deathly Hallows. During a heated argument with Albus' brother, Aberforth, he even explained that once they had the Deathly Hallows and were able to create their new world where wizards ruled, Albus and Aberforth's sister, Ariana would not have to be hid any longer. The argument, however, turned deadly when they pulled out their wands. Albus and Ariana came in the middle. Albus tried to stop both of them from killing each other, but in the end there was death. Ariana died. None of the three knew who sent the deadly blow that took the little girl's life, but after that, nothing was the same.
After his relationship with Ablus ended, he left Godric's Hallow and began to reach the Deathly Hallows on his own, delving into the research and forsaking all else. It had became his obsession, his life's work. In his research, he discovered that the wand maker Gregorovitch had the Elder Wald. He broke into the man's workplace and stole the wand, becoming it's rightful owner. With the Elder Wald in his possession, he began to raise a wizard arm to make his dream possible for him. His arm reigned terror over the wizarding nations of Europe. He build a prison called Nurmengard.
In 1930, he finally faced Albus in person once again after the duel that killed the other man's sister. He tried to persuade Albus to agree with him, to aid him in his effort, and promised the man equal power. However, the man could not side with him after the terrorism he'd committed in his dream's name. They had a few meetings before one meeting ended in death. This time there was no mistake that Gellert killed Albus with his own wand. He was distraught, but knew it was his chance to take power. He proclaimed himself "the Dark Lord" to every witch and wizard practicing in Britain and even some who didn't.
By 1950, he no longer kept magic a secret in Britain. He forced muggles in 'power' (that was striped but for the appearances' sake) to make Unbreakable Vows to keep the knowledge of magic within the country's boundaries. His reign of terror and blatant grab for power make must muggles cower. During the 1960s and 1980s, he expanded his dictatorship to overtake the wizard - and muggle (but that did not know this yet) - countries of Norway, Denmark, Belgium, Netherlands, and France.
In 1962, the first real threat to his power, which was not a threat at all in end, came up. Cassiopedia Black started what was come to know as the Class of the Chrysanthemum. In 1967, during an attack on a Ministry gathering, he ultimately killed Cassiopedia and shattered the Class of the Chrysanthemum into fractures. Now for the last 38 plus years, Gellert has tried to fight the broken Class of the Chrysanthemum, the best he can. But with this, his enemies could be those who seem to be his supporters. It is a hard struggle, but he continues on, trying to expand his power into Finland and Germany.
In May 2000, Gellert was in charge of Britain, Norway, Denmark, Belguim, Netherlands, and France and he happened to meet the vampire, Vlad Tempelus. After attacks on wizards and witches resulting in several deaths, in July 2000, Gellert issued a curfew for magical London. Later that month, Gellert visits Vlad at his castle where they start a physical relationship between the two of them. In August 2000, he issued legislation to try to get more wizards and witches to marry and produce children to farther wizarding society. In September 2000, certain members of the Ministry went to Germany to work with the government there. The death of the German Minister of Magic is the result, which leads Gellert to taking charge of Germany as well and issuing an award for those involved. Later that month, Gellert issues legislation to make all muggleborns register with the government. In October 2000, when Vlad is caught for the murders on the wizarding society, Gellert lets him stew in his jail cell for a few days before visiting them. Once there, he tells Vlad he would get him out and pin the murders on someone else.
